Abstract

The article is devoted to the study of dialectal particles as components of morphological dialectisms in Olena Lototska’s collection of prose miniatures “Angels in Necklaces”. It is noted that among all function words, dialectal forms of particles have the highest frequency of use; in the writer’s literary discourse, they function in the speech of characters, mainly in dialogue.

The aim of the article is to analyse morphological dialectisms in the sphere of particles presented in Olena Lototska’s collection of prose miniatures “Angels in Necklaces” as a distinct component of the dialectal system and of the writer’s style.

Using the method of continuous sampling, the study identifies more than 200 sentences containing various classes of particles with clear dialectal attribution, since they display defining dialectal features, primarily phonetic ones, which are also systematically represented in other parts of speech and recorded in lexicographical publications presenting material from Middle Polesian and Western Polesian dialects. This confirms the writer’s careful and deliberate use of dialectal elements. At the same time, the most frequently used dialectal particles, especially demonstrative ones, are identified as an important part of the lexicon of the Polesian characters.

The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that function words, including particles as morphological dialectisms, in Olena Lototska’s collection of prose miniatures “Angels in Necklaces” have not previously been the object of systematic linguistic research as representatives of character speech and as a component of the writer’s style alongside other types of dialectisms. The study further develops the issue of the importance of representing dialectal elements at various linguistic levels, including the morphological level, in the literary discourse of contemporary writers, among whom Olena Lototska stands out as a representative of the actualisation of Polesian speech in prose miniatures.

Future research will focus on dialectal forms of other function words, particularly prepositions and conjunctions, used in Olena Lototska’s collection “Angels in Necklaces”, as well as on the study of lexical dialectisms. This will make it possible to provide a systematic description of dialectisms at all linguistic levels in the collection.
